Crewe and Nantwich Athletics club had another successful day out at the Cheshire Cross Country Championships at Forest Park, Warrington on Saturday 8th January. Over 30 runners competed, with several of the teams bringing home medals. The U11 girls got the competition off to a tremendous start, Rachel Fifer 8th, Eve Heaword 9th and Emily Ashman 19th earning the girls a bronze team medal. The U11 boys included Jack Soulsby 11th, Will Kesteven 12th, Harry Dobberson 18th and Jordan Sides 31st. The boys narrowly missed out on a team medal in 4th position. The U13 girls included Cara Gibbons in 12th, Freya Taylor-Hatswell 18th and Annie Huntbach 21st. The U13 boys brought home bronze team medals with superb running by Jacob Brown 7th, Tom Shenton 9th, James Howell-Jones 10th, Fred Dobberson 15th and Matt Hole 29th. In the U15 girls, a fantastic run from Georgia Pickles put in her in 6th place followed by Georgie Perris-Redding 22nd and Lauren Whittaker 23rd. The U15 boys team placed 3rd overall in bronze medal position with Luke Cockerton 7th, Rob Poole 10th and Josh Edge 16th. In the U17 boys competition Richard Owen achieved our clubs highest position in a fantastic 5th place, followed by Oliver Williams 19th and Brad Smith 21st. Chris Bennet came 7th in the U20 mens. Our Senior men including Rob Huntbach, David Dobberson, Andy Jones and Neil Fowler all had a good run out and all placed in the top 100. Well done also to Katie Lennon and Alice Dodds who competed.
It looks like congratulations are in order for Georgia Pickles, Richard Owen, Chris Bennet and Jacob Brown who should now qualify to run for Cheshire in the English County Championships in March at Cofton Park in Birmingham.
