Nine brave Crewe & Nantwich athletes took part in what can only be described as the worst running conditions possible as they ran (plodded and crawled) their way around ankle deep mud in the National Cross Country Championships held at Alton Towers. Despite the conditions, up to 360 athletes completed each of the Junior Races, and almost 1500 ran in the Senior Mens Race. In the U13 Boys Race, Fred Dobberson came in 216th and Matt Hole 314th; whilst Cara Gibbons came 239th in the U13 Girls Event. In the U15 Girls Race, Katie Lennon came 295th and Alice Dodds 315th. Richard Owen came in 87th and Bradley Smith 260th in the U17 Men Race; Chris Bennet was 165th in the Junior Mens & David Dobberson was 1003rd in the final race of the day, the Senior Mens. All the runners deserved a medal for competing, let alone finishing, and should be proud of their achievements. Thanks also for all the parental support, especially as spectators got almost as muddy as the runners, and for Jane Bennet & Jill Gibbons for Team Managing.
