Northern Cross Country Championships at Knowsley Safari Park.
Nine Crewe & Nantwich athletes ran on a day where the weather started off quite reasonable towards the end some of the worst that some have ever experienced.
First up was the U17 Men, C&N had two in this age group. The weather wasn't bad at this point even though it was quite windy. The ground was reasonable at this point because it was one of the earlier races. Elliott Nevill came in on 52nd place and James Howell-Jones on 94th place.
Second up was the U13 Boys, C&N had two in this age group. The weather was gradually getting worse and by the time they'd finished it had started to rain. William Kesteven came in on 53rd place and Peter Selby on 81st place.
Third up was the U15 Girls, C&N had only one in this age group. The weather a little wet but by the time Cara Gibbons finished she was experiencing running in high winds and hailstone. Cara finished in 84th place in horrendous conditions.
Fourth up was the U15 Boys and for this race C&N had a team of four which was great but high winds, heavy rain turning to hailstones, tents blowing away, everyone drenched we were wondering if the event would go ahead. The weather luckily started to ease and by the time the race started the rain had eased considerably even though the lads were very wet and very cold. Josh Betteley came in on 11th place – a great performance in a field of 170, Fred Dobberson came in on 58th place, Arun Dight came in on 80th place and Josh Stubbs came in on 161st place. The team finished 8th overall which was a fantastic achievement out of 21 teams, beating the likes of Liverpool and Trafford.
